Latino Family Services (SB964)

Our Mission

“To  preserve, reconcile and restore families and children, through holistic personal development and education.”

As Give Us This Day continues to grow, we continue to develop new programs based on the needs of our community. Over the last decade, there has been a vast influx of Latino families, as well as various other ethnic groups into the Portland Metro Area. For this reason, we recognize the importance of providing culturally appropriate services to aid those families involved in Child Protective Services who may not necessarily be familiar with the policies and practices of DHS.  It is here where we strive to fill-in the cultural gap, which has been proven to be the key factor which will facilitate and engage clients to build good rapport with caseworkers and providers.  We envision a Portland with more community based services available to our families in efforts to provided effective guidance and support.

Cultural Compentency

Give Us This Day's Latino Family Services provide bilingual/bi-cultural specific services to Latino families in the Portland Metro area who are in need of supervised parenting, skill building and individualized centered plans.  Our bilingual/bicultural Latino staff will provide culturally appropriate, individual and group classes on healthy family dynamics, as well as acculturation and assimilation orientation.

Give Us This Day’s Latino Family program will also educate families on the importance of  Protective Capacity and will modify services throughout a 10-week course.  The goal of the program is to strengthen and stabilize families by decreasing the numbers of children going into foster care and increasing the number of children returned home.  All written materials, handouts, facilitation of groups, individual/familial sessions and case management will be provided in Spanish.
